10 Core Things I Stand For.

about me Aug 09, 2020

I am a qualified Coach and Master Practitioner of NLP, trainer and manager. Over the last 15 years, I have helped many people from all walks of life facilitate change - specifically helping people to change their relationship with alcohol and drugs.

People often come to me when they have decided, "I want to stop drinking," or "I want to stop taking drugs" I help them get clear on how to make this change and support them through it.

10 Core Things I Stand For (in the context of my work)

Learning - this one is massive; learn about alcohol, learn about drugs (I know alcohol is a drug, but I have to say that so you know what I am talking about). This is where I want you to start; learn about the substance you are taking, the facts. Make an informed choice about what you are putting into your body and the impact on you and your life. If you don’t know where to start, message me.

Action - You can think, read, listen, overthink, analyse; but seriously, just take action. Just f**king do it. It’s all in the action. You might have decided: I want to stop drinking, but now you are thinking, how the hell will I be able to relax without alcohol?! Basically make a list of 5 things that may help you to relax and do them. It’s through the action that you will figure it out. No one lost weight or got abs by reading about it. You have to do the exercises.

Possibility - Live in the realms of possibility. Anything is possible, it really is. I have seen it, and lived it myself. You can change, anyone can. You just need to apply yourself, learn, get support, take action, rinse, repeat. Find examples of people who have done what you want to do. Surround yourself with people who inspire you. Believe this. Model possibility.

Practical - When I help people change their behaviour around drugs and alcohol, I am all about the how to. If you want theory I can give you a little bit of that. I can signpost you to it as well probably. But I am all about teaching you how. If you want to stop drinking alcohol, I will teach you how to do it. If you want to stop taking cocaine, I will teach you how to stop. I give practical tips, things you can go and do today that will help; based on best practice, working with 1000's of people, some amazing trainers and researchers. I will give you the good shit.

Facts - This is so important to me in my work, sharing facts, the truth about alcohol and drugs. What it is, how to take it, how to reduce the risk, what the risks are. There is so much misinformation out there about drugs, including alcohol. What you will also get from me is the truth about the risks you are taking, so if you are killing yourself I will tell you. I will be super clear with you about the best course of action for you. Don’t panic, it's only a small number of people that need to be completely abstinent due to risk.

Quality of life - I want you to enjoy your life, whatever that looks like for you. You choose. If you want to continue using that's up to you. I want you to be happy. I am not the fun police and I don’t preach abstinence (unless you need to or have decided "I want to stop drinking"). One life people, it’s happening now, live it your way, on your terms, but don’t hurt anyone please.

Choice - sort of fits with quality of life really. I can give you professional advice, but you choose what you want to do with it. Back to your life, your choice, however, I want you to make an informed one.

Non judgemental - I don't care what you have done. Honestly, there is nothing you can tell me that I haven’t heard or seen already. I am 51 with a very broad life experience. Yes, I look like some average middle-aged woman, but seriously you have no idea. I have also worked with children, families, adults in a range of settings, with a range of issues. Prisons, psychiatric units, hostels, homeless shelters, CEO's, celebrities, musicians. Alcohol and drugs can impact on anyone in any walk of life. So please don’t worry about what you have done, we can deal with it, whatever it is. You can change as well.

Compassion - It's all about the love. We are all humans, doing our best with what we have in this moment and I truly believe that. No one is perfect, no one. We all make mistakes. We can learn from them and move on, mostly. This is about compassion for yourself and others.

Sharing - Pay it forward. I have always volunteered since a teenager and I hope I always will, in some capacity. We are all humans, if you can help another human, please do. Hence why I do quite a bit of free stuff (volunteering really). We are here to support each other, to build each other up. Imagine if we lived in a world where we sorted ourselves out, then we helped another human.

This underpins my whole mission, if I can teach, guide, support someone to live their life, on their terms, one person at a time, this is my contribution. What's yours?

If you want to change your relationship with alcohol or drugs, contact me today. I can help.

Best Wishes Stephanie Chivers
